Brief History

First Choice Home Health and Hospice, one of the leading home health and hospice agencies in the state, goes beyond just providing seniors health care by treating patients as part of our own family.  We work with famlies, physicians, and caregivers to provide Medicare-certified health care in the comfort of our patients' homes or residences.  We offer a myriad of services that are customized to meet the individual needs of our patients.

Our fully licensed staff includes nurses, therapists, social workers, and aides who work under the direction of a patient's physician to assist with a wide variety of health care needs.  Our commitment to excellent care is demonstrated regularly by the healing, improvement, and satisfaction of patients under our care.  First Choice has maintained high levels of patient and family satisfaction since its inception in 1996.

First Choice was established in January 1996.  Marilyn Mower, owner and administrator for the company, started First Choice to elevate the standard of care for patients in home health care.  She also hoped to create a company that treated its staff with the dignity and respect that she felt she was missing in many other organizations that she had worked for.  Having worked personally as a home health aide, Marilyn used her direct experience in understanding and serving her patients to establish the values and standards of care upon which First Choice has built its reputation.  Marilyn saw first-hand what was needed to serve her patients and their families and created an atmosphere where they were treated as part of her family.  "When you're with First Choice, you're with family" is still one of our guiding philosophies today.

In 2004 that same philosophy inspired First Choice to begin providing hospice care to the community in addition to home health care.  Few things at the end of life are more important then being surrounded by loving family who help provide care and comfort at a very tender time.  Marilyn wanted to extend the dignified and caring services that terminally ill patients deserve in a way that felt as though only family were at the bedside providing care.  First Choice has succeeded in doing just that and today our hospice team serves many patients and their families throughout Salt Lake, Utah, and Davis counties.

Since 1996, First Choice has grown from a startup agency with two employees serving a handful of home health patients to a rapidly growing organization with over 170 employees that serves hundreds of patients each year in both the home health and hospice fields.  First Choice has been recognized as a top Medicare provider during the time it has been in existence.

First Choice currently operates out of two main offices.  One office, along with the agency headquarters, is located in Orem and serves Utah County.  A second office is located in Murray and services Salt Lake and Davis counties.
