What is Hospice Care?

Hospice services provide compassionate care for anyone who has been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness. The hospice philosophy recognizes death as the final stage of life and seeks to enable patients to continue an alert, pain-free life and to manage other symptoms so that their last days may be spent with dignity, surrounded by their loved ones. Our hospice team is there to assist, educate, and support patients and families, as well as ensure that all their needs are met. "When you're with 1st Choice, you're with family" is more than just our motto -- it's how we feel about our patients.

When is Hospice Needed?

Most patients benefit from seeking help early on. 1st Choice can provide pain relief, emotional support, and respite care to ease the burdens on both patient and family. Most hospice services are provided in the patient's own home; however, services can also be provided in hospital, skilled nursing, assisted living or retirement facilities. To be eligible for hospice care, an indivitual must have:

  1. A life-limiting illness
  2. An estimated life expectancy of six months or less
  3. A treatment goal of comfort rather than cure
